Measured Drawings and Documentation (ARC61004)

In this module, students must use the proper methods and techniques to measure historical buildings for documentation, evaluate the construction techniques used in heritage buildings, and produce historical research on the measured building in the form of a written report and photographic documentation.

Project 1
On-site Observation Journal
Students must observe, sketch, and record the physical and non-physical settings of the site and the measured building as part of this on-site assignment. The overall urban design, street scenes, architectural components, and architectural features are examples of physical settings. Contexts that are not physical may include related social and cultural components. To demonstrate students' understanding of the contextual linkages between heritage architecture and the location, the sketches are complemented with interpretive captions.

Project 2
Historical Research Report
The measured heritage building will be the subject of historical research by the students, who will then create a thorough report outlining the historical, social, and cultural characteristics of the structure. Students will gather and analyse significant historical information about the measured heritage building under the direction of a clear framework and methodology in order to assess and comprehend the influencing variables on heritage architecture. In the peer review, individual contributions to this collaborative project will be evaluated.

Project 3
Measured Drawing

Students will be tasked with measuring and documenting a historically or architecturally noteworthy heritage building as part of a semester-long project. To create the necessary architectural drawings, measurements must be converted into a Revit model. Students will need to conduct further study in addition to the on-site measuring exercise in order to fully comprehend the architectural and cultural characteristics of the structure.
