Project 2b: The Discovery Center (Visitor Center for Jalan Terusan Utama Parit 4, Kampung Sg Hj Dorani)
Project task & overview:
Students must create a structure for their final project that will enable users to "DISCOVER" information about the people, places, things to do, cultures, histories, etc. connected to Jalan Terusan Utama Parit 4, Kampung Sg Hj Dorani. It will serve as a visitor centre with educational exhibits, a museum-like walk-through historical or cultural journey, an interactive and interesting "edutainment" programme, and areas or spaces to interact with the residents and the surrounding natural environment. All of this information will be used to create settings that call for poetic architectural design.
Reflection
Throughout this project, I have learnt how to Produce and justify a design of a small-scale community building within an open/suburban context, following analysis and exploration of the site, the user requirements, environmental sustainability, buildability, and spatial poetics. I had also achieved the tgc of thinking and problem solving skills by thinking creatively to resolve basic building construction, materials, and environmental considerations as well as digital literacy and intrapersonal skills by studying independently by making use of the information available on the internet.
